Focus on Revelation

This edition of the EMEA newsletter is a little more concise than usual and that is mostly due to preparations for LinuxWorld in a couple of weeks time and the whole Revelation community becoming very busy following the summer months.

If you do not usually worry about reading the newsletter, please do so this time.  The main news this month is the continued release of new products to help to drive down costs and enable our VARs to provide increased functionality within their solutions.  This is something that any Revelation VAR will want to know about.

New Products Released

This month sees the introduction of yet more products designed to increase your deployment options and make better use of those trimmed IT budgets.

1-User SDP

Following the release of the 50-user SDP last month, we see the release of the new 1-User Server Deployment Pack.  This product now enables any number of end-user license counts to be achieved right across the deployment types that Revelation offer.  The suggested retail price for the 1-User SDP is £199.00 (Ex. VAT where applicable).  Like all of our Server Deployment Packs, this will be supplied by email with a pre-registered unique serial number.

Runtime and Developer Class deployment products

The really big change this month is the release of Developer Class license.  This brand new license is specifically designed for end-user systems that need a little more power and flexibility.  The Developer Class licenses will be made available in addition to our existing product offerings and they will be optional

OpenInsight WORKS will continue to be offered as an annual subscription service and is unchanged by the introduction of the Developer Class license.  The annual subscription service includes: a current version of the OpenInsight development environment, access to product upgrades, the popular WORKS discussion forums on www.revelation.com and technical support on any documents OpenInsight feature.  These products and services will continue to only be available to current OpenInsight WORKS subscribers and for this reason OpenInsight WORKS will continue to be the license required by all developers building and deploying solutions using Revelation products.

However, OpenInsight can now be purchased with Developer Class licenses or Runtime Class licenses for systems deployed to end-users, without the need to subscribe to OpenInsight WORKS.  This means that they do not benefit from support, upgrades or access to the private WORKS forums, services that are usually supplied to end-users through their end solution supplier.

The suggested retail price for developer class licenses is exactly the same as Runtime Class licenses, however the Developer Class licenses will be subject to an annual license renewal fee, being 20% of the current list price of the type of Server Deployment Pack (SDP) purchased.  For example, the OpenInsight 50-User SDP, released last month, has a current list price of £2,750.00 and it will carry an annual license renewal fee of £550.00.

Revelation anticipate that a number of existing runtime end-users will wish to take advantage of the new Developer Class license.  For this reason, any existing OpenInsight 32-bit runtime class license may be converted to a Developer Class license at no additional charge until 30th April 2007.  All converted licenses will then be invoiced an annual license renewal fee on the anniversary date of the conversion.  Please contact Martyn should you wish to explore or take advantage of this exchange.

Following 30th April 2007, users will still be able to convert their Runtime Class licenses to Developer Class licenses, but they will be invoiced for the annual license fee at the time of conversion.  All Developer Class licenses will continue to be invoiced an annual license renewal fee each year thereafter on an automated basis.

ARev 32 Update

Development of Arev32 is progressing very nicely and attendees of the recent Revelation EMEA road show in London saw initial examples of ARev screens running in ARev32.  These screen examples were ARev32 running PAINT.  They certainly looked like PAINT from ARev 3.1, but in fact were PAINT from Arev32.  Revelation's plans currently are to include ARev32 as part of the OpenInsight product, most likely as part of the 8.0 release.  As the development team continue to make headway with this exciting new product offering, we will keep you posted via this newsletter.
