Revelation EMEA Conference - Reminder
Usually, the Revelation World Conference held in the USA, is the one and only place to meet up with fellow developers and users to experience technical presentations from some of the leading lights in the Revelation world. However, this year we are holding a mini-conference at the Novotel London West Conference Centre on Wednesday 27th June 2007, kicking off at 09:30 (GMT).
This conference will feature some of the technical presentations from the World Conference and a key note address from Mike Ruane (President and CEO Revelation Software Inc.). Mike will discuss OpenInsight version 8.0, ARev32 and the Revelation Roadmap for the rest of 2007 and into 2008. The full agenda, including details of the technical sessions can be found by clicking here.
You can now register for the conference by completing our conference registration form or by contacting info@revsoft.co.uk. There is a nominal charge of £150.00 plus VAT which will include all of the technical sessions, lunch and the evening get together. Payment for this event will be required on or before the 31st May 2007 so please reserve your place as soon as possible.
We look forward to seeing you in London for the key Revelation EMEA event of 2007.

Using AJAX with OpenInsight
At recent trade events the buzz word on most developers lips has been AJAX. This new spin on two mature technologies remains an increasingly popular subject as more and more traditional desktop systems are moved to the web or at least extended to the web in some way.
Whilst many web developers reach for reference books to learn how to plug in this new technology, combining OpenInsight and AJAX is not a problem for Revelation developers. For a while we have shown that we can play with AJAX very easily and this was highlighted in a newsletter back in July last year. As recently requested the AJAX white paper referenced in that issue of the newsletter has now been posted to our white papers section of our web site.
Please contact us if you need more help or advice with regards to web enabling your Advanced Revelation or OpenInsight based application.

myViewpoint
Revelation EMEA are proud to now offer Quantum VS myViewpoint - an advanced Business Intelligence and Decision Support solution for your OpenInsight based solution.
Providing an exceptionally powerful graphical view of your businesses data, Quantum VS myViewpoint enables users to immediately identify problem areas that need addressing, well ahead of when they might otherwise become critical problems for the business. Imagine being told when one of your customers is moving to a competitor, or when a client is reaching 80% of their credit limit.
Maximise the value of your information assets.
Make sense of the growing volume and complexity of your transaction data.
Connect every manager and decision maker to the business and its strategy by permitting them to monitor, measure, track, manage and analyse business data and business performance.
Define and measure your actual business performance, against the goals it has determined, agreed and set.
Through visual representations of key performance and trend indicators contained within your database, your users will receive business critical information at a glance rather than having to wade through reams of paper. Not only does Quantum VS myViewpoint enable you to reduce your stationery costs, but it also enables users to drill down through their data to explore any flagged issue and get right to the root of the problem. Once there, an informed and timely decision can be made benefiting both the business and the client.
Less information to process and powerful visual indicators = better and more timely decisions.
Many business leaders and department heads believe that they are in tune with their business and know how their teams are performing on a daily basis. While this is usually true from a general perspective, the information to hand is often not detailed enough to give a true picture and all too often vital decision making detail is lost or never even looked for. Using Quantum VS myViewpoint will ensure that a true, 360 degree picture of business performance is achieved with minimal effort, and without wading through mountains of paper.
Quantum VS myViewpoint provides benefits for both end users and also VARs (Revelation's Value Added Resellers). Please click here for more information or contact Martyn to discuss how Quantum VS myViewpoint can help you to gain a better, clearer understanding of your business data and overall business performance.

DBTA Feature Interview with IBM and Revelation
Revelation's partnership with IBM continues to raise the company's profile within the MultiValue market place. Evaluation software downloads are up and U2, D3 and other MultiValue developers are coming back for another look at what OpenInsight has to offer, only to find out how they can maintain their competitive advantage in a world that seems to evolve so frequently.
If you are an IBM client you will no doubt have seen March's DBTA (Database Trends and Applications) article featuring a sort interview with IBM's Susie Siegesmund and Revelation's Mike Ruane. For those of you who did not see the article please download a copy by clicking here.

From the desk of Bill Caisley
Throughout the OpenInsight version 7.x releases we have seen a marked improvement in the Runtime Deployment Kit (RDK) and many upgrades to OpenInsight are now created and released through the WORKS and beta areas using the RDK. In addition, many OpenInsight developers are now using the RDK to deploy new systems, this enables them to quickly and easily maintain those systems.
It seems that in many instances the RDK is simply run from the System Monitor and once completed, the system is left with the users. However, developers should be reviewing the Upgrade.log file found under the OpenInsight directory whenever an RDK installation process has completed.
As the images below show, this log file can be invaluable as it details every error that might occur during an upgrade to your OpenInsight system, be it from Revelation or one of your own. Better still, this is an ideal way of checking that your own RDK installation packages are complete and that you have not missed any files.

An example of a log file showing several errors during an RDK installation process. The log file entries show the error code number (which can be checked against the error code list) as well as the offending file name and the line number that corresponds to the %PROCESS% record in the SYSUPGRADE table as shown below.

What you actually want to see is a clean log as shown below and which indicates a clean and complete upgrade has been preformed:
