OpenInsight Version 8.0.3 released.

Last week saw the release of OpenInsight version 8.0.3 and it's publication to the WORKS area on www.revelation.com.  Incorporating 8.0.2, this release contains numerous enhancements and fixes across all parts of the product and WORKS subscribers can review the readme on the upgrade download web page.  Please contact Martyn if you are not a WORKS subscriber, but would like to learn more about the latest release.

One of the major changes delivered with this release is the requirement for an authorisation number to run the upgrade against both your development systems and runtimes and to apply Server Deployment Packs.  This authorisation number is available on request from your usual contact at Revelation.

The WORKS area includes a 'Frequently Asked Questions' sheet, which explains the Authorisation Code process and why this change has been implemented and how it affects both developers and end-users.

Do you have a product written using a Revelation product?

The www.revelation.com web site has an area that is dedicated to our VARS and it is where any Revelation VAR (Value Added Reseller), also known as ISV (Independent Software Vendor), can post their application and company details.  The page is categorised by industry type, or a list of all applications by vendor can be viewed.

This resource is frequently viewed by potential end users looking for a software solution to support and enhance their business, or maybe simply to address a current business need.  In addition, when people contact our offices we refer them to this page for details of applications written in RevG, ARev and OpenInsight and which might address their needs.

If you have a solution written using any of Revelation's tools, then you should have it listed on the web site to maximise your potential of a sale.  Please contact Martyn if your application is not listed on the web site and you wish yours to be featured without further delay.  Listing your product is FREE and provides you with excellent exposure.

Business Continuation.

The nature of Revelation's application development tools all too often results in smaller and smaller development teams and single person organisations building solutions that their customers come to depend on.  This is great from a cost of ownership point of view but, as a result, many end users are now requesting more and more complex forms of disaster recovery.

Everyone tends to have the backup or mirroring issues in hand and Revelation now have the Universal Driver Heavy to further enhance the availability of OpenInsight data 24/7/365, enable real time backups and above all provide IT support teams and managers with 'Peace of Mind'.

However, what about the one case that we all hope never happens - when your application developer, author or supplier is no longer around to support and maintain your system and you find yourself all on your own.  Well, for most organisations this is handled through some form of Escrow agreement and this is all well and good.  However, this approach does have two fairly fundamental drawbacks for many end users:  The first is cost, both to set up and to maintain, especially if you have several (or even hundreds) of sites that want protection.  The second is what to do with the source code when you, as an end user, is presented with it - something many people do not think about until it is too late.

Revelation Software Limited (EMEA) are please to announce a brand new Business Continuation package designed especially for Revelation VARs and users in the EMEA region.  This new service is designed to keep costs to a minimum, whilst also providing protection for ALL users of a specific application, not just those with the money to pay for the Escrow protection.  Furthermore, the package is designed to ensure that when the unthinkable does happen, end-users are not left holding meaningless code and also the expense and responsibility to maintain the package themselves.  This fundamental issue is resolved by providing extensive technical resources to the users to ensure that systems remain functional, that they remain supported and that users can get system changes implemented without unnecessary worry.

Like a traditional Escrow agreement, End-users will still have the source code to do what they wish, but this new service makes sure that they are not alone and have a partner to ensure continued success with the application or a facility to quickly identify a new partner.

Please contact Martyn to find out more about this new service and to obtain a draft copy of the Business Continuation Agreement designed to protect end-users Revelation based systems into the next decade and beyond.
