Revelation Software's Network Products Optimize the Performance of ARev and OpenInsight Applications

To many who already use one of the Revelation Network Products, it is almost unimaginable to run without them. The universal Driver increases the integrity, stability and speed of your Revelation applications running on a network, be it a LAN or a WAN running Windows, Netware or Linux and OpenInsight or Advanced Revelation.

The Revelation Network Product Suite consists of advanced technologies, created with a communications strategy that is designed to both optimise and maximise, the performance of multi-user Advanced Revelation (version 2.03 or greater) and OpenInsight based systems. By reducing network traffic and effectively widening the network's band width, the speed of response between the server and the client machine is increased.

In addition, each of the Network products contain data integrity enhancing capabilities, which deliver cost benefits to a business by reducing network errors that appear as Group Format Errors (GFEs) and they also maximise user confidence in deployed systems.

All of the network products are designed to deliver these performance and integrity benefits to your business applications with ease. They are simple to install and are "drop-in" solutions, requiring no changes to the existing Revelation application.

"Every Revelation product should be installed with a Network Product to optimize performance, stability, and data integrity. We won't install our app without one!"
-- Christopher Cordera, VP & Director of Technical Services, Fulcrum Intetech.

Some of the key benefits of the Universal Driver include:

Protection from data corruption.

Data corruption can occur for a variety of reasons, including bad network cabling, power fluctuations, hardware errors, no record locking, or users aborting processes. Often it is impossible to predict or prevent such events. The Revelation Universal Driver protects you against data corruption when such events do occur by recognizing that an error occurred and notifying the user, while protecting the data table from incomplete transactions, virtually eliminating data corruption errors (Group Format Errors).

Increased speed performance.

The Universal Driver enhances system performance, by off-loading most of the processing to the file server. This architecture dramatically reduces the amount of network requests and effectively widens network bandwidth. This reduction of network requests translates to increased performance through a more efficient communication channel. Benchmarks show a dramatic performance increase on local area networks (LANs), and an even greater increase on wide area networks(WANs).

"We've been getting some terrific performance increases with the NT Service. We've seen anywhere from three to four times better performance...It was well worth the investment"
-- Bob Cloney, Director of MIS, Elite Spice

Reduced Downtime

Costs mount very quickly when your users can't use the system. The real cost of data corruption is the downtime created while the appropriate back-ups are found and restored. If the system can't be restored with a recent back-up, the information must be re-entered, taking additional precious resources. By reducing data corruption and maximising communication performance, your Revelation Software based system will require less support resource, experience minimal downtime and run as efficiently as possible.

"The Revelation NLM has got to be the best product Revelation has ever put out...It saves us support dollars by dramatically reducing our calls. It saves our clients money, too. In fact, the president of our user group tells us that the improved speed and data integrity that they've enjoyed paid for their Revelation NLM in about 30 days."
-- Brock Prusha, Senior Developer, DFM Systems, Inc.

Hide your sensitive data files

Access to your data files by unwanted means is a key concern to many business leaders in today's business. Staying on the right side of the Data Protection Act, ensuring your clients personal data remains secure and avoiding the PR following a data leak are crucial. Through the Universal Driver, Revelation based systems can be configured so that data files can only be accessed through the Universal Driver and then only through legitimate routes. This allows the prevention of the examination of .LK or .OV files from hex editors, at a client workstation.

Support for large files

Revelation Software based systems remain in use for many years, hundreds are now into decades of use. This such longevity comes very large file sizes and the Universal Driver ensures that Revelation based systems can manage files larger than 4 gigabytes, including encoding media files (such as images) into the database itself.

User lock management utility

If you are running your Revelation based systems on a Windows environment, then the later versions of the Universal Driver include a useful user lock management utility. This enables the system to be interrogated for user locks that remain open on the system and then they can be gracefully released. This is most useful when it comes to backup time for systems spread over a wide area and users leave their logins open over night.
